Soudafoam SMX adheres well to all common building surfaces, making it an ideal choice for a wide range of construction and insulation projects.
However, it is important to note that the product does not adhere to polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). For projects involving these materials, alternative solutions should be considered.
Proper surface preparation is critical for ensuring the best adhesion and performance of the expanding foam.
Begin by thoroughly cleaning the application area to remove dust, grease, and other contaminants. This can often be achieved with a simple brush or cloth.
For optimal adhesion, it is crucial to moisten the surfaces with a water sprayer before applying the foam. This step is particularly important in dry conditions or when working with absorbent materials.
Additionally, conducting a preliminary adhesion test on non-conventional substrates is recommended to assess compatibility and ensure the desired results.
Before application, shake the aerosol can vigorously for at least 20 seconds to ensure the foam's components are well mixed. Attach the adaptor nozzle securely to the valve to prepare for application.
When filling holes and cavities, apply the foam sparingly, filling the space approximately one-third full, as the foam will expand to fill the area.
It is essential to shake the can regularly during use to maintain the foam's consistency and ensure even application.
For projects requiring multiple layers of foam, repeat the moistening process before each additional layer to facilitate better adhesion and integration between layers.
Be mindful of the foam's expansion properties and adjust the application volume accordingly to avoid overfilling.
Cleaning up after using Soudafoam SMX requires attention to the foam's curing stage. Fresh, uncured foam can be removed easily with Soudal Gun & Foam Cleaner.
It is advisable to wear gloves during the application to prevent the foam from adhering to the skin. If contact occurs, Swipex Hand Wipes are effective for removing uncured foam from hands.
Cured foam can only be removed mechanically or with Cured PU Foam Remover. Never burn away cured foam.
Take the usual labour hygiene into account.
Always wear gloves and goggles during application. See our Safety & PPE Products.
