Soudal Butyrub is a high-performance, semi-setting mastic formulated for static and low-movement joints. It is easy to apply and forms an elastic, tight surface skin while remaining uncured beneath, allowing for a self-repairing effect.
Soudal Butyrub offers excellent adhesion on a wide range of porous substrates and delivers outstanding resistance to chemicals, UV radiation, and weathering. It is paintable after 24 hours and is ideally suited for applications in masonry works, roofing, coachwork, container construction, window frames and sills, and for the installation of single glass in window frames.

When using Soudal Butyrub, it is essential to take the usual labour hygiene precautions. Always wear suitable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including gloves and eye protection.
Ensure the workspace is well ventilated during application. Consult the product label and Material Safety Data Sheet for further detailed safety information prior to use. Keep the product away from sources of ignition and store out of reach of children.
Soudal Butyrub is formulated to provide excellent adhesion on all commonly encountered building substrates. It is particularly effective when used on wood, concrete, stone, aluminium, and various other metals.
However, it is not suitable for use on natural stones such as marble and granite, as staining may occur. It is also unsuitable for applications involving the sealing of insulating glass units or safety glass.
Prior to application, all surfaces must be properly prepared. Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, or any other contaminants that may impair adhesion.
A preliminary adhesion test should be carried out on each substrate to confirm compatibility and performance before commencing full application. Proper preparation ensures optimum performance and maximises the durability of the seal.
Soudal Butyrub should be applied using a standard caulking gun. Once the mastic is extruded onto the joint or surface, it is important to immediately spray the sealant surface with a mild soapy solution. This step is essential to prevent premature skin formation during tooling.
After spraying, the joint can be finished to the desired profile using the Soudaglatt Smoothing Tool or an alternative smoothing implement. A wetted finger may also be used where appropriate to achieve a neat finish.
The final appearance should be smooth and free from air bubbles or breaks. It is recommended to avoid using the product in joints that will be subject to continuous immersion in water.
Coverage of Soudal Butyrub will vary depending on the width and depth of the joint or surface area being sealed. Always calculate joint dimensions carefully to estimate product requirements accurately. Please refer to our Guide on How To Measure The Number of Tubes Required For the Job.
Minimum Width for Joints: 5 mm
Maximum Width for Joints: 20 mm
Minimum Depth for Joints: 5 mm
Recommendation Sealing Jobs: Joint Width = Joint Depth. Use PE backer rods before applying the sealant in large joints to avoid 3-point adhesion.
After application and smoothing, the mastic will form an elastic surface skin within approximately 24 hours. Soudal Butyrub can be painted over once the skin has formed, provided that the selected paint is sufficiently elastic to accommodate the flexibility of the sealant.
Due to the wide variety of paints available on the market, a compatibility test is strongly recommended before full application to ensure that the paint adheres correctly and does not crack.
Any uncured Soudal Butyrub should be removed immediately using a surface cleaner or Soudal Swipex Cleaning Wipes for best results.
Once cured, the product can only be removed mechanically. Tools and equipment should be cleaned promptly after use to maintain their condition and ensure consistent performance on future applications.
Store Soudal Butyrub in a cool, dry place at temperatures between +5°C and +25°C. Protect the product from frost and direct sunlight. When stored under these conditions in unopened packaging, the product has a shelf life of at least 12 months.
Do not blend Soudal Butyrub with other sealants or mastics, as this may adversely affect its performance characteristics.
