Soudal Soudaseal 215LM is an advanced, versatile, and reliable solution for a wide range of sealing and bonding applications, making it an indispensable tool for construction professionals. Its superior properties, environmental friendliness, and ease of use make it a top choice for ensuring long-lasting and high-quality results in various projects.
Soudal Soudaseal 215LM is suitable for use on all usual building substrates including aluminium, stone, treated wood, PVC, and other common construction materials.
To ensure optimal performance, substrates must be clean, free of dust, and grease. For smooth surfaces, it is recommended to treat them with Soudal Surface Activator or Soudal Cleaner & Degreaser.
In water-loaded applications, porous surfaces should be primed with Soudal Primer 150. We recommend conducting a preliminary adhesion test on every surface to ensure compatibility and adhesion strength.
Proper surface preparation is essential for achieving the best results with Soudaseal 215LM. Begin by ensuring that all substrates are clean and free from contaminants such as dust, grease, and loose particles.
For non-porous surfaces like metals and smooth plastics, use Soudal Surface Activator or Soudal Cleaner & Degreaser to remove any residues that might hinder adhesion. For porous surfaces, particularly in areas exposed to water, apply Soudal Primer 150 to enhance adhesion.
Always perform a preliminary adhesion test on each surface to confirm compatibility and adhesion quality.
Soudaseal 215LM should be applied using a caulking gun. Ensure that the substrate temperature is above 5°C to facilitate proper application and curing. Follow these steps for effective application:
Cut the Nozzle: Cut the nozzle of the cartridge at a 45-degree angle to match the desired bead size.
Load the Cartridge: Insert the cartridge into a caulking gun.
Apply the Sealant: Apply the sealant in a continuous bead along the joint, ensuring complete and even coverage.
Smooth the Bead: After applying the sealant, use the Soudaglatt Smoothing Tool or a similar tool to smooth the bead and create an even finish. Run the tool smoothly along the sealant line. If a smoothing tool is not available, a wetted finger can be used to achieve a similar effect. Perform the smoothing process before the sealant begins to skin over.
Minimum width: 5 mm
Maximum width: 30 mm
Minimum depth: 5 mm
Recommended Ratio: Joint width = 2 x joint depth.
Proper finishing ensures a professional and clean appearance of the sealant bead. Immediately after applying the sealant, smooth the bead using the Soudaglatt Smoothing Tool or a similar tool. Run the tool along the sealant line in one continuous motion to avoid gaps and inconsistencies.
If a smoothing tool is not available, you can use a wetted finger to achieve a similar result. Complete the smoothing process before the sealant starts to skin over to ensure a neat and tidy finish.
To maintain the tools and surrounding areas clean, follow these cleaning steps:
Clean any uncured sealant using Soudal Swipex Cleaning Wipes. Wipe away the excess material before it hardens.
For cured sealant, use Soudal Sealant Remover Spray. Apply the spray to soften the sealant and then scrape it away mechanically. Follow the instructions provided with the Soudal Sealant Remover Spray for effective results.
Soudaseal 215LM is paintable with water-based paints. Due to the large variety of paints and varnishes available, it is strongly recommended to perform a compatibility test before application. Note that the drying time of alkyd resin-based paints may increase when applied over the sealant.
Soudaseal 215LM should not be used as a glazing sealant. It is suitable for sealing on natural stone provided the joint dimensions and movements are respected. Avoid permanent pressure on the sealant. Use masking tape around the joint to prevent the sealant from smudging the surface materials. Be aware that a total absence of UV can cause a colour change in the sealant.
Soudaseal 215LM meets several international standards, including ATG 98/2241 (ISO 11600-F25LM) in Belgium, MPA-NRW 22-0902 5 98 to DIN 18540-F in Germany, BBA SC 007/01 (ISO 11600-F-25LM) in the UK, and BRANZ Appraisal Nr 419 in New Zealand.
Soudaseal 215LM conforms to the requirements of LEED for low-emitting materials, complying with SCAQMD rule 1168 and USGBC LEED® 2009 Credit 4.1 regarding VOC content.
