Soudal SMX 506 represents the pinnacle of innovative sealant technology. Built on the foundation of Soudal's state-of-the-art SMX® hybrid technology, it offers unparalleled adhesion properties suitable for most surfaces. Uniquely designed to serve self-cleaning glass applications, it triumphs where other glazing sealants fail, maintaining its integrity even in the face of challenging environmental conditions.
This sealant can be painted wet-on-wet with waterborne paints, ensuring a seamless and cohesive finish. It doesn't incorporate solvents, isocyanates, acids, halogens, and toxic components into its formulation, making it a completely neutral and environmentally considerate product. Even under the most demanding circumstances, SMX 506 is easy to use and apply.
A key agent in the fight against environmental damage, SMX 506 displays impressive resilience, deterring bubble formation within the sealant in high temperature and humidity applications. Stable high shear strength after full cure eliminates the need for a primer, and it's easy to tool and finish with soapy water. Furthermore, Soudal SMX 506 is colourfast and UV resistant, a long-lasting solution with minimum health and safety considerations.
Excellent Adhesion: SMX 506 Sealant rigorously adheres to almost all surfaces, even those that are slightly moist, ensuring a snug fit regardless of the material involved.
Compatibility with Waterborne Paints: It supports wet-on-wet painting with waterborne paints, providing a smooth finish and cohesive aesthetic.
Neutral Composition: Absence of solvents, isocyanates, acids, halogens, and toxic components make SMX 506 completely neutral and safe.
Ease of Use: With its user-friendly application, SMX 506 lends itself to easy usage even under taxing circumstances.
Bubble Resistant: The sealant is specifically designed to prevent bubble formation in high-temperature and humidity settings, preserving its integrity.
High Shear Strength: Once fully cured, SMX 506 achieves high shear strength, replacing the need for a primer.
Easy to Tool and Finish: Application and finishing is simple and efficient using a common item such as soapy water.
Colourfast and UV Resistant: Resistant to fading and damage from harmful UV radiation, ensuring long-lasting professional appearances.
Minimal Health and Safety Concerns: With its safe and neutral composition, SMX® 506 requires minimal health and safety considerations.
Glazing Between Glass and Window Frames: Whether the window frame is made of wood, aluminium, steel, or PVC, SMX 506 ensures a strong bond between the glass and the frame.
Ideal for Use on Self-Cleaning Glass: Specifically developed for applications on self-cleaning glass such as "SGG Bioclean®" and "Pilkington Activ GlassTM", where traditional sealants are inhibited, SMX 506 offers robust and lasting adhesion.
DIN EN ISO 11600 G 25LM Bioclean - Activ Glass (IFT Prüfbericht 504 34673).
ISO 11431 on SGG Bioclean® and Activ Glass™ (IFT Prüfbericht 504 28498/3).
IMPORTANT: Installation guidelines of Self Cleaning Glass Manufacturers should always be respected.
All smooth surfaces can be treated with Soudal Surface Activator.
Certain paints and textured coatings on aluminium profiles can influence the adhesion. We recommend a preliminary adhesion test on any substrate. Not suitable for PE, PP, PTFE (eg Teflon®), bituminous substrates, copper or copper-containing materials such as bronze and brass.
We recommend a preliminary adhesion test on every surface.
Application Method: With manual Caulking Gun.
Cleaning: Clean with white spirit or Surface Cleaner immediately after use.
Finishing: With a soapy solution before skinning. Tool sealant with Soudaglatt Smoothing Tool for a smooth finish.
Repair: With the same material
Coverage of any sealant product varies depending on Joint Width and Joint Depth.
Please refer to our Guide on How To Measure The Number of Tubes Required For the Job.
Soudal SMX 506 may be painted, however due to the large number of paints and varnishes available we strongly suggest a compatibility test before application. The drying time of alkyd resin based paints may increase.
Remove all traces of soap (tooling) because it will harm the adhesion of the paint onto the sealant.
The use of metal spatula or other hard tooling equipment on self-cleaning glass is not recommended in order to prevent the damaging of the active layer of the glass.
We recommend the use of Soudaseal 215LM for all perimeter joints (between wall and window profiles) in applications where Self-cleaning glass is used.
Do not use Soudal SMX 506 in applications where continuous water immersion is possible. Therefore a min. inclination of 10° of the surface is required.
Self-cleaning-glass: Soudal SMX 506 allows a primerless application on Self Cleaning Glass. (e.g. Activ Glass by Pilkington and Bioclean by Saint-Gobain Glass). All naturally and accelerated weathering tests performed up till now show an excellent compatibility and adhesion of the product on the Self CleaningGlass. Soudal's growing experience with this type of glass will also allow for a more accurately predicted long-term functionality of the product onto this type of glass.
When using different reactive joint sealants, the first joint sealant must be completely hardened before the next one is applied.
Discoloration due to chemicals, high temperatures, UV-radiation may occur. A change in colour does not affect the technical properties of the product.
Contact with bitumen, tar or other plasticizer releasing materials such as EPDM, neoprene, butyl, etc. is to be avoided since it can give rise to discolouration and loss of adhesion.
