Soudaseal Supertack is suitable for bonding on all usual substrates. These substrates should be rigid, clean, dry, and free of dust and grease to ensure optimal adhesion.
For porous surfaces in water-loaded applications, it is recommended to prime the surfaces with Soudal Primer 150. Non-porous surfaces should be prepared with Soudal Surface Activator or Soudal Cleaner & Degreaser Spray.
The product exhibits excellent adhesion on various metal surfaces, including stainless steel, AlMgSi1, electro-galvanised steel, AlCuMg1, hot-dip galvanised steel, AlMg3, and steel ST1403. It also adheres well to plastics such as polystyrene, polycarbonate (Makrolon®), PVC, ABS, polyamide, PMMA, fibreglass reinforced epoxy, and polyester.
Note that plastics often have releasing agents or protective foils that must be removed before bonding.
Before applying Soudaseal Supertack, ensure all surfaces are properly prepared. For non-porous surfaces, use Soudal Surface Activator or Soudal Cleaner & Degreaser Spray to clean and degrease the substrates.
For porous surfaces, especially in water-loaded applications, apply Soudal Primer 150 to enhance adhesion. Make sure to remove any releasing agents, processing aids, or protective foils from plastic surfaces to prevent adhesion issues.
A preliminary adhesion and compatibility test on every surface is recommended to ensure optimal results. It is important to note that bonding certain plastics like PMMA (Plexi® glass) and polycarbonate (Makrolon® or Lexan®) in stress-loaded applications can cause stress cracking and crazing; thus, Soudaseal Supertack is not recommended for these applications.
To apply Soudaseal Supertack, follow these steps:
Ensure the substrates are properly prepared as described above.
Cut the nozzle of the cartridge at a 45-degree angle to the desired bead size and insert the cartridge into a caulking gun.
Apply the adhesive onto one surface in beads or dabs, spacing them approximately every 15 cm. Make sure to apply adhesive to the edges and corners of panels to ensure secure bonding.
Press the surfaces together firmly and batten down with a rubber hammer to ensure good contact and adhesion. Support of the bonded materials may be required until the adhesive cures.
The bond can be fully loaded after 24 to 48 hours, depending on environmental conditions and the substrates involved.
Once the adhesive is applied and the surfaces are bonded, ensure the installation is neat and any excess adhesive is smoothed out.
The adhesive can be overpainted with most water-based paints, but a compatibility test is recommended before application to avoid any issues.
Alkyd resin-based paints may have an increased drying time when applied over the adhesive.
For easy clean-up after application, use Soudal Swipex Cleaning Wipes to remove any uncured adhesive residue.
If the adhesive has already cured, mechanical removal with the assistance of Soudal Sealant Remover Spray is required. Ensure to follow the instructions provided with Soudal Sealant Remover Spray for effective removal.
Soudaseal Supertack is paintable with most water-based paints, but a compatibility test is strongly suggested due to the variety of paints and varnishes available.
The product is not suitable for use as a glazing sealant or for bonding aquariums.
It should not be used in applications where continuous water immersion is possible, and contact with bitumen, tar, or other plasticiser-releasing materials such as EPDM, neoprene, and butyl should be avoided to prevent discolouration and loss of adhesion.
The product conforms to LEED requirements for low-emitting materials and complies with SCAQMD rule 1168 and USGBC LEED 2009 Credit 4.1 regarding VOC content.
