Soudal Soudaseal MS Clear is an advanced, crystal-clear hybrid polymer sealant and adhesive that offers superior performance in a wide range of bonding and sealing applications. Formulated to provide exceptional adhesion, this versatile product bonds strongly to nearly all surfaces, including damp ones, ensuring a reliable and durable bond every time.
The crystal-clear formulation of Soudaseal MS Clear makes it the perfect choice for applications requiring an invisible bond, such as the bonding of glass and other transparent materials. Its clarity does not compromise its strength; the product exhibits high modulus properties, ensuring robust bonding with the necessary elasticity to accommodate movements and thermal expansions of the bonded materials.
Soudaseal MS Clear is incredibly user-friendly. It is easy to tool and maintains excellent extrudability even at low temperatures, facilitating smooth and efficient application in various conditions. Once cured, the sealant remains permanently elastic, adapting to the dynamic stresses of bonded joints without cracking or losing adhesion. This makes it ideal for both indoor and outdoor applications where long-term performance is critical.
The product is formulated without isocyanates, solvents, halogens, or acids, ensuring it is safe to use and environmentally friendly. Its inclusion of XS1 fungicide makes it impervious to mould, enhancing its suitability for sanitary applications such as bathrooms and kitchens. Additionally, Soudaseal MS Clear can be painted with all water-based paints, allowing for seamless integration into various finishing processes.
The technical performance of Soudaseal MS Clear is backed by impressive specifications. It forms a skin in approximately 4 minutes at 23°C and 50% relative humidity, and cures at a rate of 2 mm to 3 mm per 24 hours under the same conditions. The product has a hardness of 38 ± 5 Shore A, a density of approximately 1.05 g/ml, and an elastic recovery of over 75%. It can withstand temperature extremes from -40°C to 90°C, and it accommodates movements up to ± 20% with an elongation at break of approximately 350%.

Soudal Soudaseal MS Clear is suitable for use on all common building substrates, including glass, treated wood, PVC, plastics, metals, stone, and concrete.
The substrates must be rigid, clean, and either dry or slightly moist. It is essential that the surfaces are free of dust and grease to ensure optimal adhesion.
For porous surfaces, it is recommended to use Soudal Primer 150 to enhance adhesion. Non-porous surfaces should be prepared with a Soudal Surface Activator or Soudal Cleaner & Degreaser.
Special attention should be given to plastic surfaces as they often have releasing agents, processing aids, or protective agents like protection foils that must be removed prior to bonding or sealing.
Note that bonding plastics such as PMMA (e.g., Plexi® glass) and polycarbonate (e.g., Makrolon® or Lexan®) in stress-loaded applications can lead to stress cracking and crazing; hence, the use of Soudaseal MS Clear is not recommended in these scenarios.
It is also unsuitable for PE, PP, PTFE (e.g., Teflon®), bituminous substrates, and copper or copper-containing materials such as bronze and brass. A preliminary adhesion and compatibility test on every surface is strongly recommended.
Proper surface preparation is crucial for achieving a strong and durable bond. Begin by ensuring that all surfaces are clean, dry (or slightly moist), and free from dust and grease. For porous surfaces, apply Soudal Primer 150 to enhance adhesion.
Non-porous surfaces should be cleaned and prepared using Soudal Surface Activator or Soudal Cleaner & Degreaser to remove any contaminants that could affect the bond.
For plastic surfaces, it is important to remove any releasing agents, processing aids, or protective foils that may hinder adhesion. Conducting a preliminary adhesion and compatibility test on each surface will help ensure that the product performs as expected.
To apply Soudaseal MS Clear as a bonding adhesive, follow these steps for optimal results:
Cut the nozzle of the cartridge at a 45-degree angle to the desired bead size and insert the cartridge into the applicator gun.
Apply the adhesive in continuous beads or dabs spaced approximately every 15 cm. Ensure that adhesive is applied to the edges and corners of panels to secure a strong bond.
Press the surfaces together firmly and batten down with a rubber hammer to ensure proper contact and adhesion.
If necessary, support the bonded materials until the adhesive cures. The bond can be fully loaded after 24 to 48 hours, depending on environmental conditions and the substrates involved.
When using Soudaseal MS Clear as a sealant, follow these detailed steps:
Joint Preparation: Ensure that the joints are properly designed and sized according to the expected movements and thermal expansions. Joints should be clean, dry, and free from any contaminants such as dust, grease, or old sealant residues.
Masking: Apply masking tape along the edges of the joints to ensure a clean and neat finish. This also helps to prevent the sealant from spreading onto adjacent surfaces.
Cutting the Nozzle: Cut the nozzle of the cartridge at a 45-degree angle to match the width of the joint. Insert the cartridge into a sealant applicator gun.
Application: Apply the sealant into the joint using steady pressure on the applicator gun. Ensure the sealant fills the joint completely, avoiding any gaps or air pockets. Move the applicator gun smoothly along the length of the joint for a consistent bead of sealant.
Tooling: Immediately after application, tool the sealant with a suitable tool or a wet finger to ensure it adheres well to the sides of the joint and creates a smooth, professional finish. This step should be done before the sealant begins to skin over.
Removing Masking Tape: Carefully remove the masking tape before the sealant skins over to ensure clean edges and avoid pulling the sealant out of the joint.
Once the sealant has been applied and tooled, ensure the installation looks neat and any excess sealant is smoothed out. Soudaseal MS Clear can be overpainted with most water-based paints.
Due to the wide variety of paints and varnishes available, it is advisable to perform a compatibility test before application.
Note that alkyd resin-based paints may have an increased drying time when applied over the sealant.
For easy cleanup after application, use Soudal Swipex Cleaning Wipes to remove any uncured sealant residue.
If the sealant has already cured, mechanical removal with the assistance of Soudal Sealant Remover Spray is necessary.
Soudaseal MS Clear is not suitable for use as a glazing sealant, for bonding aquariums, or for expansion joints. It should not be used in applications where continuous water immersion is possible. The product can discolour under extreme conditions or after prolonged UV exposure, but this does not affect its technical properties.
When using different reactive joint sealants, ensure that the first joint sealant has completely hardened before applying the next one. Avoid contact with bitumen, tar, or other plasticiser-releasing materials such as EPDM, neoprene, and butyl, as this can cause discolouration and loss of adhesion.
Soudaseal MS Clear conforms to the requirements of LEED for low-emitting materials, including adhesives and sealants. It complies with SCAQMD rule 1168 and USGBC LEED 2009 Credit 4.1 regarding VOC content.
